The Dean Blog

Lorin Basden Arnold

I have been a member of the Rowan University community since 1998, when I joined the Department of Communication Studies.  In the years since, I have served as a member and chair of a variety of university committees, directed the public speaking program, and chaired the Communication Studies department, and served as Interim Dean for the College.  In July 2010, I accepted a permanent post as Dean of the College of Communication.

As a communication scholar, my research focuses primarily on the family, examining our understandings of family and family relationships and enactments.  Recent research efforts have examined mothers’ understandings of gender socialization, mothering and eating disorders, and online parenting communities.  In 2007, I published Family Communication: Theory and Research with Allyn and Bacon press.  The text is a combination of an anthology and traditional textbook, for use in undergraduate family communication courses.

At Rowan, I have taught courses in family communication, gender and communication, interpersonal communication, communication theory, and ethical issues in communication, among others.

I hope that you find The Dean Blog useful, and I welcome your feedback and suggestions regarding future material.
