Rowan’s Employee Charitable Campaign

Filed under: News and Announcements — LBA @ 2:33 pm

Dear College of Communication colleagues,

Recently you received a packet in your campus mailbox for the yearly Employee Charitable Campaign. As most of you know, this campaign is organized by the state of NJ to assist state employees in making contributions to the charities of their choice, by providing for payroll deduction. The ECC has allowed the Rowan community to contribute over $600,000 in this decade to a wide variety of charitable organizations. Clearly, $600,000 is a lot of money. And I know that many of us are in more of a financial bind right now than we were at this time a year ago, or two years ago. However, it’s important to remember that every donation, of whatever size, helps. As little as $2 per pay period can send a child with epilepsy to a day of summer camp, enable a food bank to distribute 8.5 pounds of food, buy a set of adapted utensils for use by an individual with MS, provide diapers/formula/supplies for a baby after a disaster, or help in many other ways. Imagine what can be done for $5 per pay period! Because there are so many charities that are available for donation through the campaign, I’m sure you will find some that have touched your lives and the lives of your loved ones. In just my own experience, my immediate family has directly benefited from the work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Arthritis Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Humane Society. And, we’ve received the value of the work many other organizations do by utilizing information that they generate and distribute in school projects, providing assistance to family/friends, etc. Last year, the College of Communication generated almost $4,000 in donations to these vital organizations. But, only 22% of the college participated (one of our lowest rates of participation since 2001). This year, I would love to see us really increase that participation rate to a level that reflects the commitment we have to engaging in, and teaching our students about, civic participation. You can make your contribution by filling out the form included in your packet, or online at http://uwgmc2k.uwgmc.org/rowan. Thank you for being a part of Rowan’s contribution to the many worthy causes represented in the Employee Charitable Campaign.
